Is Apex trading a scam?

This was my initial question when I first heard about Apex Trading. It was a concern that was also voiced to me by some experienced traders whom I know and respect.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

At first look this seems as something relatively easy to achieve. They offer a $25k account and if you can make $1.5k, you get funded. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. The problem is that there’s a loss limit set at $1.5k, which means you have to aim for a 100% return. Additionally, the loss limit adjusts based on the higher intraday account balance. So, even if you take a $100 profit after being up $300, your stop limit now trails up to $1.2k, making your account technically smaller as you work with less capital.

Does this make it impossible to pass? No. In fact, I managed to get funded myself. However, the key to handling these evaluation accounts is to be extremely rigorous about risk management and prioritize taking profits at your target levels.

Which Account is Best?

In my opinion, the $25k account is the better option because you only need to achieve a 100% return, unlike other accounts with less favorable loss limit/profit target ratios. Once you have a funded Personal Account (PA), you’ll need to repeat the same process until you can build a cushion. In the PA accounts, once you hit the profit target plus $100, the trailing stop limit stops, allowing you to start building that cushion.

Is it Right for Me?

I would say that it’s a great way to refine your skills and strategy without the fear of blowing up your own account. The most you can lose is the amount you pay for the evaluation. Once you achieve consistency and regular payouts, it’s best to trade with your own account to avoid paying commissions to anyone.

One thing I can confidently say is that going through this process will undoubtedly make you a better trader.
